Baker Street tube station got toasted? Wow! How did that happen? Well evidently that’s the yeast of one’s worries! But to put it briefly, this toastally awesome adventure began when many famous celebrities all took part in the various plots to compliment a certain Bolton based bakery’s success. Besides publicising the company’s wholesome reputation, the tasty goodness of its bakery products was also extolled. It was achieved by way of various plots and stories involving gangsters, robberies and even period costume drama. Here’s a roll call of the villains, sorry, celebrities, who were involved in kneading their various roles: George Clooney, Olivia Colman, Morgan Freeman, Samuel L. Jackson, Peter Kay, The Muppets, Robert de Niro, Sylvester Stallone – and even Paddington Bear!
Every one of these celebrities did this bakery proud! And now its the company’s 150th year of service. Bakers being bakers, only a baker could conceive of an idea to use Baker Street station for its advertising! Ain’t muffin like this happened before!

A lucky few got to enjoy the luxury of having Samuel L. Jackson as their boss! Securing such actors for the company’s 2023 campaign proved a huge success especially as Jackson hit the ground running just baking care of business! Definitely a no loafer!

Baker Street station with Warburton’s 150th Anniversary advertising campaign. Simply dough-lightful!
In getting to the yeast of the matter, one must certainly wonder what it was all about, even if one has to go against the grain to find out! Nevertheless one can be on a roll, literally, when one reads what Morgan Freeman had to say about Warburtons and its 2026 advertising:
Lending my voice to chronicle 150 years of this family’s unwavering dedication to the simple, yet profound, act of baking… well, that’s a narrative that truly deserves to be heard. Their commitment to quality baking, passed down through generations, shines through, making it abundantly clear why they’ve remained a beloved household name for so long. And I confess, I found myself quite taken by that crumpet – 300 holes, I told you these Warburtons were crazy! (Warburtons).

The Warburtons’ campaign can be found within the northbound platform of the Jubilee line, as well as the passageways leading to the escalators where further examples of the advertising could be found. Overall its not one that was entirely different from campaigns found at other stations such as Oxford Circus. However the more unusual nature of the advertising plus the Jubilee line’s platform’s orange and red colour scheme helped give an extra dimension to the campaign.

‘We’re painting the town orange’. Definitely a better orange than the one the Jubilee line uses! Warburtons’ advertising at Baker Street station.
Normally I’d not write about these examples of widely populated tube station platform advertising. Usually they need to be controversial (such as the recent Heineken) or eye catching (such as the tube’s longest advert ever). In my view the Warburtons ad was very nicely done and that’s how it came to be featured on London Rail – I’m a gluten for punishment!
The great thing about this campaign is its one where the station name actually contributed. There was no need, like in many other substantial collabs with TfL, to change the station name (like Burberry Street or Green Planet). The other thing was the platforms themselves. As regular passengers will know, the Jubilee line’s stations at Baker Street, Bond Street and Green Park have an overall orange colour scheme on the offside to the platforms. Baker Street however has a vivid red colour scheme to the platform side too – and its not too terribly different from Warburton’s vivid orange. These elements helped the the Warburtons advertising stand out even more.

One way of ensuring the dough rises is to use the escalators! No doubt TfL (Toasters for London) found a few less holes in its coffers too!
One giant leap for breadkind! Warburton’s 2026 advert with Morgan Freeman – who didn’t know what a crumpet was! Seems few Americans even know the word.
Hold up! What the hell’s a crumpet? It’s a sort of delicious round baked thing with holes. Like a bagel. More holes. How many? About 300!

Just think about it – when the Warburtons advertising finishes its run at Baker Street, it’ll be scone but not forgotten!
